What is Psychological Flexibility?
Psychological flexibility is the ability to stay present, open, and engaged with your values, even in the face of challenges or difficult emotions.
It is not about avoiding discomfort, but about responding in a way that keeps you aligned with what matters most.
Research shows that psychological flexibility is a key predictor of wellbeing, resilience, and life satisfaction
(Kashdan & Rottenberg, 2010;
Hayes, Strosahl, & Wilson, 1999).
People with higher psychological flexibility are better able to manage stress, adapt to change, and pursue meaningful goals, even when setbacks occur.
Why It Matters
- It helps you navigate difficult emotions without being dominated by them.
- It strengthens resilience and reduces the impact of stress.
- It allows you to live more fully in line with your values.
